Personal growth. There are times when an individual not only reaches a personal standard set for him or herself but also exceeds it. That has been the case with me of late, and I couldn’t be more pleased.

I’m a person who thrives off of setting goals, especially ones of self-improvement, and then digging in to execute them. And though the path taken to achieve my most recent growth was arduous and pushed me to my limits, I’m at peace with what transpired, for that level of challenge was necessary to gain success.

I can be and often am as giddy and goofy as the next person. But when it comes to setting out to meet a personal goal, my determination becomes focused to the finest nano-detail, driving me on.

Are there times when I fall short of my objectives? Sure. Doesn’t everyone? And when those aims are ones that have been set by other than myself, I understand that there will be occasions when circumstances outside my control will prohibit my success. But…when I, myself, have set a target, there aren’t many things that get in the way of my triumphing. Why? Because the person I am most competitive with and answer to first and foremost is myself. And, frankly, I get really bummed when I let myself down.

Do I set unrealistic goals? Sometimes. But from those I learn how to better manage expectations the next time round. By being receptive to the whole learning curve process—successes and times I don’t measure up—I know that I’ll continue moving in an upward motion, bettering myself in the process. That’s what inspires me to set more ambitions.
