I
was talking with a friend earlier about work ethics and especially
professionalism. Both self-employed, we
agreed that we hold ourselves to an unusually high level when it comes to work. In addition we agreed that’s not a bad
thing. That more might do well to adopt
the same mentality.
We
discussed how many are willing to take the easy way out to turn a quick buck
rather than putting in the time and effort required to not only do the job
right but also to put one’s best foot forward—always and first when engaging in
business dealings.
We
discussed how there are times when one individual may bestow a friendly gesture
of helping another out in trade or at a reduced rate rather than expecting to
get paid outright. After all, that’s
what friends do for one another, they help when possible. Delving deeper into that scenario, we agreed
that in those circumstances, the one receiving shouldn’t expect perfection and
should allow for the occasional screw up.
After all, they are getting a favor.
But, in my opinion, when a
person is expecting top dollar payment for their services, they should do their
darnedest to adopt a professional attitude where how they present themselves
and their product is in the best light possible. To me, this just makes good business
sense. After all, who wants to have
their name or reputation attached to inferior work?
