Two sentences into writing yesterday’s blog, things got rather hectic. I’ve written that I’ve transferred to Arizona for an undetermined amount of time, but wasn’t at liberty to say the whole reason why, until today.

Part of my reason for coming here was to help my one daughter move back to complete her final year of college. But the more pressing reason I’m here is to help my other daughter who is pregnant and who had been put on bed rest due to contractions.

One of the biggest reasons I haven’t said anything about this before now, is that my family has wished to privately come to terms with a possible diagnosis the baby was given way back—cystic fibrosis. Each of us has had to process this in our own way and what it would mean to the baby should the diagnosis be correct. We have taken the time during our daughter’s pregnancy to do so, privately.

In addition, I blogged that on my drive out here on Monday, my one daughter and I received a series of text messages bearing tragic news. At the time, again, we needed to deal with the news in our own way and privately.

I’m thrilled to report that at 9:56 AM today, that wound was healed when our first grandchild, Makaila Jacklyn, was born! Not only is she a beautiful blend of both her parents, but her middle name was changed earlier this week to honor her daddy’ father who died this Wednesday after having suffered a massive brain aneurism just a week earlier.

This little ray of sunshine, no matter if she ends up having Cystic Fibrosis or not, has not only captured all our hearts but also done an amazing job of healing a very raw recent wound for her daddy.

Regarding her possibly having CF, they will run a test tomorrow, the results of which will take a week or so to get back. In the meantime, we will do what we planned all along—love Makaila unconditionally and surround her with the strongest family we can create for her.
