Here’s an interesting concept I pulled from a fortune cookie a while back.  Never be selfish with your advice or help.  At first glance, this seems rather elementary—a no-brainer.  But dig a little deeper and it could be laced with potential pitfalls if a person isn’t adept at maintaining boundaries.

I agree with grabbing the hand of those who reach out to us…to a point.  By that, I mean, no one has the right to so tax another’s resources, time or emotions as to drag him or her down.  That’s not asking for a helping hand, it’s being a burden.  So, though there’s nothing wrong with offering advice, one must stress that though this might be right for them, it may not serve the purposes of the one asking.  Also, when offering help, be sure that you’re built up enough yourself.  Otherwise, you’ll be bled dry, end up with nothing to offer and find yourself incapable of picking your own self up when needed.
