A recurring theme in many of my blogs is there are times when folks have to dig in and “do the hard work.”  A reader asked me to elaborate on what I mean by that, so here goes.  For many, human nature is to walk the other direction when faced with difficult challenges.  However, if a person has any hope of self-improving themselves or a given situation, they don’t have the luxury to walk away when things get tough.  Instead, they’ll have to stand their ground, look those challenges in the eye and do what’s necessary to “fix” things.

As mentioned above, this isn’t everyone’s first choice.  In fact, there are a lot of folks who avoid this at all costs.  Why?  Because it takes hard work.  Determination.  Self-reflection.  Digging in to make things better, whether that’s a situation, wrong you’ve created or something about one’s self requires a person to step outside their comfort zone, push their own boundaries and address oft messy emotional things that make a person uncomfortable at best and, when in stressful situations, can debilitate them.

So how does one do the hard work?  I believe it begins with a sheer will to make things better.  Once that determination has had a chance to blossom into its full potential, the person will have the resolve necessary to say, address and/or do whatever is required to make things right instead of fleeing at the first sign of being squeamish.
