As I see it, life is a wonderful kaleidoscope of experiences and individuals.  Some we encounter blend together like interwoven fibers of an intricate tapestry, drawing us in with their splendor and beauty.  Others make us dizzy.  Sometimes, the latter makes us want to turn away to regain our balance.  I try to resist this urge.  Don’t always succeed, but when I do, I’m amazed at the enlightenments I gain!

Some of these encounters are painful.  So heart wrenching as to make my very soul ache.  But that’s okay.  Why?  Because I believe we’re here to experience life, not merely get through it.  And sometimes, that requires us to roll up our sleeves and wallow around in the trenches till we’re so dirty we barely recognize our reflection.

Something most forget is that dirt, like many other things we encounter in life, can be washed away.  May take time and effort, but it won’t mar us forever, and the lasting “tinge” it places on our hearts and souls is oft worth the effort.

This isn’t to say that we need to actively seek out things that will push us to our limits or try our emotional resolve.  Instead, what I’m trying to get across is that it’s important to take our blinders off, if only for brief respites, to experience all life has to offer—crazy fringe, extreme individuals and all.

Think of it this way, if crazy fringe and extreme individuals weren’t intended for us to learn from, do you think they’d be placed in our line of focus to begin with?
