My
heart aches when I’m made aware of someone who feels such a sense of
hopelessness that the only way they see out is to take their own life. This happened to a friend of mine this past
weekend while we were away at an event together.
It
comes as a shock when you hear the news.
Course, in hindsight, you piece all the puzzle bits together to form a
cohesive picture, one that would’ve seen the suicide possibility.
But
people get sad. They reach out. Concern, love and acceptance are expressed by
those surrounding. And yet…they end up
not being enough. The person in crisis
takes desperate measures—serious ones—ones not intended to gain attention but
to actually end their life….
Thank goodness, at least in
this case, the act was stumbled upon and the individual was revived. They’ll be okay—physically. But mentally…emotionally…that’s harder to
predict. In the meantime, our hearts are
heavy. More concern, love and acceptance
are expressed. We hope that this time,
they are better received and will be enough.
Only time will tell….
