Exacting patience and being flexible….

I’ve blogged about a good number of things, many having to do with bettering one’s self or situation.   Though I haven’t blogged about them before, I believe that exacting patience and being flexible are tops on that list.

As the year winds down, many become stressed with the approaching holiday season and all it involves.  Expectations can run high and be unrealistic.  Emotions can work on overdrive, making shorter one’s “fuse.”  Couple this with financial strains, company visiting from out of town, life in general, and the pressure can build.

One of the best gifts a person can grant him or herself is that of patience and of learning to be flexible.  So what if things don’t go exactly as you’d planned.  That isn’t the end of the world.  What if it takes longer to get from point A to B?  Again, life will go on.

These are examples of general problems that affect most at one time or another.  But we needn’t let them get to us.  The hold these “downfalls” have on us depends upon how much merit we’re willing to give them.

If we maintain a positive mindset, then we’ll be better prepared to put things into proper perspective.  By doing so, we’ll stand a better chance at being flexible about our expectations and willing to adjust them as needed.  Likewise, when things don’t go our way or the manner in which we thought best, we’ll be more likely to take a few deep breaths as we search for patience rather than snapping at one another.

These are trying times where the future is uncertain.  But…there is one thing we can count on.  Our lives will run more smoothly if we set our aim high.  Exacting patience and being flexible cost us nothing other than demonstrating that we understand the principles of self-control and are capable of acting accordingly.  Seeing as these cost us nothing and can make our lives better, why then would anyone be unwilling to practice them?
