What makes you feel tranquil?  Do you know?  Have you taken the time to assess those things that evoke such a peaceful space within that you can’t help but acquiesce, a content smile brightening your heart, much as dawn’s first rays illuminate a once-blackened sky?  How often does one subscribe to recognizing the gentle murmur of contentment that stirs their soul?

Do you pause to feel the internal vibes created by a lovely sunset?  How about the courting song a bird emits?  Does it stir your soul?  Do the textures of fine fabrics make you smile?  What about the taste of a new cuisine?   Does it evoke wonder and appreciation?  Or merely a meal to satisfy one’s hunger?  What about certain aromas?  Do they transport you in time and space?  Do they cause you to cringe?  Do you submit to their intoxicating power, allowing yourself to collapse into a sublime bliss?

Society would have us believe we should run around at breakneck speed, attempting to accomplish all our to-do items.  Getting things accomplished is important.   But shouldn’t one of our paramount responsibilities be to ourselves?  Shouldn’t we acknowledge that we’ve been granted an amazing gift—to exist in the here and now?  That all around us incredible and sometimes horrific events transpire, none of which will ever be repeated—no moment in time being recaptured.  As such, I believe one of our supreme tasks should be to recognize those things, as they occur, that lighten our spirit, making our souls smile in the process.  Only then will we discover what makes us feel tranquil.
