So, what to our wondering eyes did appear when the plumber was done making not one but two holes in our kitchen floor with his jackhammer? And this after they brought in an actual divining rod to determine where our leaky pipe was. Well, if you view the attached picture, you’ll see what was discovered.

Really? How’s that?

It’s hard to believe that our pipe was crushed in the middle like that, yet somehow we managed to get water into our kitchen. In addition, it’s rather remarkable that the pipe had been in that condition since the house was built some twenty-seven years ago. And…that the crushed part of the pipe had three pencil-tip-sized holes in it.

Add all that together, and I’d think we would have had problems long before now. That we should have experienced black mold and all other sorts of mildew problems. But when the plumber broke through our foundation with his jackhammer, he found none of the above, just a crushed pipe that had somehow managed to serve us all these years.

Talk about luck!

Since the discovery, the section of pipe has been replaced. We still have two large holes, each about a foot in diameter, in our kitchen floor that go all the way down to the dirt. Why? It was determined that everyone felt best if we left the holes opened with the water running for a full day so we could easily see and fix, if needed, any other leaks prior to sealing everything up.

Good plan!

So, what will next week look like? Lovely assortments of tile installers, cabinetmakers and plumbers will return to repair the damage from out leaky pipe. And they’ll do so in between my going to and from my follow-up doctor appointments. But it’s all good. We now have running water, a first since this past Sunday, and the rest will fall into place as it’s meant to.

Me? I’ll keep plugging away at getting well while holding the faith that our repairs will go smoothly.
